Late October update

Hmmm, let's see:

1. My niece Sara got Homecoming Queen on Oct 9! Sara is the first girl on the left. Isn't it funny that the girls are taller than the guys in this picture? Sara graduates in June and is applying to UNT. She is beautiful, tall, AND smart!! You should see her letter jacket - patches EVERYWHERE!!!

2. Yesterday was my sister Laura's 40th birthday!! :-) Forty is the new 30, or at least that's what all my 40+ friends are saying!!

3. I'm still going to Physical Therapy, twice a week, and I think it's helping. We'll see what the doctor says on Nov 4th. If he still suggests surgery, Tim wants a second opinion. Right now, I'm not in enough pain on a regular basis to warrant surgery.

4. This week I started teaching Junior Achievement again, with a 4th grade class in Farmers Branch. Four more lessons to go. The kids are sweet and well-behaved; all are Hispanic, and a couple of them don't even speak English yet. The teacher is bilingual, as well as a lot of the kids. But how do kids who don't know English learn anything, when they don't know what the hell is going on??

5. I was accepted into the University of Dallas Graduate School of Management, to work towards obtaining an MBA. Since TCU is twice as expensive, and way farther to drive, I think UD is a good choice for me. UD is close to my work, and I start classes in January.

6. I didn't get any farther than one interview for the job I wanted at work. They changed their minds and said they needed more of a "Unix admin-type person", so they started their candidate search over (even though my friend Ron told me the job doesn't really require it to be able to do the work). I give up......oh well, it's their loss.....I would have been a good fit for them, but they'll never know that now. I think I might still try to take a Unix class, for the future and for my resume. Seems like everyone wants Unix nowadays in IT.

Early October update

I know I look stupid, but the sun was in my eyes! L to R: me, Alice, Mary, Claudia, Georganne, and our coach Randell. We are actually standing in the vineyard of the Delaney Winery.

Tim, Lucy, and I ran in the Vineyard Run 5K last Saturday morning. The weather was perfect! I shaved almost 2 mins off the time from my first 5K, but the hills were killer! Tim did really well, placed 10th in his age group. I'm done with running class for now, but Lucy signed up again. I will try to run on my own at home, or try it on the treadmill at the gym (which I've never done).

Still going to Physical Therapy twice a week. Next doctor's appointment on Nov 4, with the actual doctor, not the PA. Guess we'll see what he says then, whether I need surgery or not.

I was "conditionally accepted" to University of Dallas MBA grad school yesterday, meaning that I had the work experience, but didn't quite have the GPA they wanted, so I have to prove myself. Take 12 hours of business "foundation" classes. If I pass (no lower than a B-), then I'll be "fully accepted". It's like being on scholastic probation. Been there, done that!
